What's covered
Our online application form makes it easy to select the type of insurance you require, whether it's Buildings
or Contents Insurance - or both. You can also select any additional cover options you require.
Here you will get a brief overview of what's covered by our Home Insurance Policy and what can be added.
However, before you decide to buy, you must read the document and the Home Insurance Policy (PDF 225KB) document to get the full details of our cover, terms, exceptions and
conditions.
Buildings Insurance: what's covered
Legal & General's Buildings Insurance insures your home against all the usual risks such as fire, storm,
flood and subsidence. It also covers less common causes of damage, such as theft, vandalism, or damage to your
property caused by vehicle collision.
With our Buildings Insurance, homes with five bedrooms or less are automatically covered up to £400,000. If
rebuilding your home would cost more, or if you have between six and nine bedrooms, you must select the amount
you wish to insure it for.
Our Buildings Insurance also includes, at no extra cost:
- Home Emergency Cover Covers call-out charges, labour and parts up to £150 for certain
emergency repairs for example, if your toilet is blocked or a pipe bursts. Available 365 days a year, 24
hours a day. This cover is provided by Europ Assistance Holding Irish branch.
- Legal Helpline For expert advice on all kinds of domestic legal problems you can call
the 24-hour Legal Helpline.
- Domestic Emergency Helpline Call the 24-hour Domestic Emergency Helpline if, for
example, your roof is damaged or a pipe bursts. We'll find the nearest suitable tradesperson and arrange a
convenient time for them to call and give you an estimate.
- Legal & General Extra A programme giving you special benefits on a range of items,
including holidays and household appliances, after a qualifying period.
- Payment Protection If you're unable to work for 30 days or more because of an accident,
sickness or unemployment, we'll take care of your monthly premiums for up to 12 months. If you're retired and
under the age of 85, or not working because of an accident, sickness or unemployment when you take out your
policy, you can claim Payment Protection if you suffer a personal injury.
Contents Insurance: what's covered
Legal & General's Contents Insurance insures the contents of your home against all the usual risks, such
as fire, theft, storm and flood. We settle claims on a replacement as new basis - except for clothes that are
more than two years old, where we will make a deduction for wear and tear.
With our Contents Insurance, if you have more than five bedrooms, or you feel that the cover limit is too
little to replace your possessions as new, then you can decide on your own sum insured.
Our Contents Insurance automatically includes at no extra cost:
- Business Equipment Cover This includes fax machines, printers, computers, modems,
monitors, keyboards, word processors, telecommunications and computer-aided design equipment and office
furniture. Cover is up to 10 per cent of the total amount your contents are insured for, subject to a maximum
of £3,000.
- Lock Replacement Up to £500 to replace locks if keys are stolen.
- Christmas and Weddings Cover A temporary increase of 10 per cent on your total sum
insured at Christmas and for family weddings.
