Damn good fun, 23 Oct 2007

Fun:
I recently got hold of a Wii (via a nice trade-in on some un-played Xbox 360 games at Gamestation) and have come to the
conclusion that it's clearly aimed at the family/gathering end of the market, and not the hard-core gamer who is looking for yet
another FPS. My girlfriend was a bit "why do you want one of them?" before I got it; but she soon changed her thinking after 5
minutes on Wii Sports. This is one of the best pack-in titles I've ever played. It shows you that you don't need next gen
graphics and processor power to make great games.
Setting up the Wii was very easy - I had it connected to my wireless network in five minutes (about 40 mins quicker than setting
up a PS3). The Wii can do other stuff apart from play games. The voting channel is fun - I even submitted my own questions. The
weather and news channels I feel are a bit gimmicky for me, but I'm sure there are people out there who don't have access to
teletext and the Internet, so it'd be of some use. I've not got anything from the Virtual Console yet - but I've been told that
the games on offer are 100% perfect conversions.
I got Resi Evil 4, Wii Play and Paper Mario too. I found Paper Mario a bit short and I've not really had a chance to play Resi
Evil 4 beyond the first village. Wii Play is really just a series of demos that show what you can do with the controller - I only
got it for the extra controller. I'm looking forward to Mario Galaxy (I'm a sucker for Mario games) and Mario & Sonic at the
Olympic Games looks like it'll be a great laugh with family and friends. My money is on Sonic in the 100m dash, but I think he'll
come up short in the swimming.

£200 well spent, 20 Oct 2007
Fun:
After playing tennis on the Wii at a computer show in January & thinking this is rubbish, i didn't think i would ever
buy one. Fast forward to July & my friend has just brought one for her kids & reluctanly i give it another go, this time
the bowling. After a few goes i was hooked.
I have been trying to get my five year old son to play videogames for about a year. The problem was always the controller being
to big for his hands. So as an early birthday present i took the plunge and spent £200 on the Wii. It was an instant hit not just
for my son but for friends & even my mum who hasn't played a videogame since i had an Atari in the early eighties.
Hey, Wii sports may be quite a basic game, graphically not great, but it is great fun to play on your own or with up to four
players.
My only criticism is that there is only a few decent games for Wii at the moment. Hopefully more are due out in the next year as
it will be a shame if the Wii goes the same way as the N64 & Gamecube.
The £200 i spent on the Wii, was money well spent.
