About the Xbox
The Xbox 360 console will be the first next-gen console released and will fuse powerful hardware, software, and services to provide a
dramatic leap forward in high-definition gaming and entertainment experiences.
The key technical specifications of the Xbox 360 console are unlikely to make much sense to any but the most technical. But if a custom
IBM PowerPC-based CPU with three symmetrical 3.2GHz cores, a 500MHz custom ATI Graphics Processor with 10MB of embedded DRAM and unified
memory architecture of 512MB GDDR3 RAM and 700MHz DDR doesn't mean anything to you just consider this: with specs like that the Xbox 360 is
already more powerful than a £2,000+ state-of-the art PC.
The Xbox 360 will also have three USB slots and both HD digital and standard audio visual outputs, which can pump out games in widescreen
at 720p and 1080i resolution, complete with anti-aliasing functionality. This will result in much higher resolution games than ever seen
before: the beginning of the HD (high definition) era.

Editorial Reviews
Amazon.co.uk Review
The Xbox 360 is Microsoft's successor to the Xbox console, and is the first "next generation" games console to hit the market. It has three
powerful core processors which pump out 720p/1080i output (translation: graphics look great), 16x9 cinematic aspect ratio (translation: it's
sort of like the cinema), anti-aliasing for smooth textures (translation: characters look less like chimps and more like people), full
surround sound and DVD playback right out of the box.
A multi media experience
 |
| Xbox 360, shown with levitating wireless controller |
In comparison to the Darth Vader inspired design of the original Xbox, the Xbox 360 a thing of (near) wondrous beauty.
In addition to playing games and movies, the Xbox 360 can stream music and video from a wide variety of electronic devices, including
iPods and the Sony PSP.
Get Live
The Xbox 360 offers an online gaming experience via Xbox Live. This allows you to play multi-player Xbox 360 games on the internet via
your broadband connection. The service also lets you download--and save on the console's hard drive--new missions, characters and vehicles
for your favourite games. You can also shout real-time abuse at your opponents using the Xbox 360 headset
Choose the package that's right for you
The Xbox 360 comes in two different packages: the deluxe package includes a wireless controller, 20GB hard drive, and a number of other
accessories. Alternatively, the Core System bundle has a standard wired controller and no hard drive.
Which option is right for you will depend largely on your gaming needs--are you a fan of downloadable content? Do controller wires upset
the feng shui of your living room? There are pros and cons for each option: for instance, if you do plump for the Core System you will have
to buy a separate memory unit if you want to save your games. Likewise, if you opt for the deluxe version you will need a steady supply of AA
batteries or a rechargeable battery pack to power the wireless controller.
The Xbox 360 is only backwards compatible with a limited number of original Xbox titles, and a hard drive is required for this
function.
Customer Reviews
How can it get better?
The XBox 360 is a fantastic console, having owned 4 previous consoles all of which did not live up to the hype, this console is better than the
hype, the graphics are realisitic on virtually anything, although on a HDTV or a Computer monitor they are beyond belief. The sound is fantastic
especially if you have a surround sound system with virtually all games having Dolby Digital 5.1. Surround. The controller is surprisingly
comfortable compared with the PlayStation controller, although the wireless version should be avoided in games where responce time counts as it
is quite slow. The faceplates allow you to personalise your console which is nice, although the design of the console is aesthetically pleasing
anyway. The HD-DVD player add-on will allow it to become a HD movie centre. The games, well put it this way if I wrote all the positives about
the games Amazon have would charge me for server space, so just two negatives - some games are too short and or lacking in elements other
versions have (FIFA 07 is a classic example) and some are just too addictive!
However I have one thing against the 360 - Xbox Live, it is poor quality with lots of lag and the wireless bridge is incredably expensive (and if
you don't happen to have a totally networked house you'll need it) and membership charges for Gold are a rip off.
But I would say that for £280 you would be hard pressed to find something so well designed, future-proofed and packing features and I you're not
too bothered about online multiplayer then this is your console. The PS3 is going to be far more expensive and only beating the XBox 360 in
features (BluRay and a wireless bridge and multiplayer are standard on the PS3) while being beaten on range of games and graphics. So if you want
a next-gen console at a descent price buy XBox.
Good for the latest generation consoles?
This console came out last year just before Christmas and now I am dissapointed to not have gotten one when I had the chance. On TV you see these
great graphics and you think I'm stuck with this crappy console (PS2 for example).
I myself has a PS2 and a gamecube and I was'nt bothered about this much but the thing that struck me to look at these consoles was `Superman
Returns'. I went on IGN and looked at videos for the XBOX 360 of superman returns and I then looked at it on the PS2. Dam you can notice a
difference not only in graphics but I would imagine in gamplay also.
The only reason I have left this with 2 stars off is because this will be old tach in about 1-2 months. I say this because of new consoles like
the nintendo wii (MOTION SENSOR AND WIRELESS CONTROLLER) and the PS3 (MOTION SENSOR AND WIRELESS CONTROLLER). Hmm a pattern and the XBOX
(NO-MOTION SENSOR AND WIRELESS CONTROLLER), personally I would wait to get the PS3 instead of this considering it will be 2x better in all areas
than the XBOX 360.
Sure the graphics look good but that is it. With these new Generation console there will be different techniques of playing (in the contollers)
but XBOX 360 seems to be stuck in the last generation with one update wireless controller but you can buy them for the PS2. Grit your teeth and
wait for the true consoles to come out.
A great console from what I have heard.
As I do not own the console, the above rating is only because I could not do the review without a rating. Anyway this is less a review than the
reason this console will probably win out of all the other consoles. I just want to get it out there that I own a PS2 and as such not a
fanboy.
Firstly this this console will have the biggest library of games and therefore most likely the best games (It make sense mathematically). It may
be a little lower in the graphics department than say the PS3 but the PS2 had the worst graphics out of the last generation consoles but still
came out top.
PS3 costs much more than the 360 but has no games exclusive to it that are top of the most wanted list. The 360 may not have a many exclusives to
it either but would you rather pay a max of £285 for a game like Assassins Creed or £460 for the same game.
Another thing is that great P.C games are more likely to come to the 360 (seeing as microsoft, arguably the lord of P.Cs, made the Xbox). Lastly
you can pick up a 360 this holiday season rather than in March and to be honest that date isn't definite. Hope this opened this opens some PS2
fanboys eyes as the PS3's delay did mine.
A list of great Xbox 360 exclusives (not taking into account that some of these have or will come out on the P.C): Gears of War, Oblivion, Dead
Rising, Halo 3(Might not be good but hey, not many Xbox owners will not own this!) G.R.A.W.
PS3 exclusive prospective great games: Resistance, Devil May Cry 4, Metal Gear Solid 4
Compare them, you might go for the PS3 anyway. The PS3 better show me something more to make me spend my money. BTW thanks for reading this
far.
